What are Head Lice?

Head lice are a seasonal nuisance that generally appear in schools in the Fall and mid Winter. Once detected on your child, In order for them to return to school your child must be nit free which can be a time consuming task for busy families to deal with. Head lice can survive on a human host for approximately 30 days. They generally cannot survive longer than 24 hours off the host. A female louse lays 3-5 eggs a day. The eggs hatch in 7-10 days and it takes another 7-10 day for the louse to mature and lay their own eggs.

How Do You Rid your Child of Head Lice?

Head lice can be eliminated without using toxic pesticides. The number of parents who choose not to use pesticide based shampoos is on the rise. These safety-conscious parents do not want to apply a pesticide to their child’s scalp, and have it absorbed into their blood and circulated throughout their bodies. Head Lice also appear to be developing resistance to pesticides, just as many bacteria have developed resistance to the overuse of antibiotics. A side benefit is that these environmentally conscious parents are also not sending these pesticides into our wastewater and thus eventually into our groundwater. How Does the Lice Patrol Program Work?

The key to removing head lice is in the combing process. Finely combing wet hair with a comb specially designed for head lice is four times more effective in getting rid of head lice than using toxic malathion or permethrin pesticide based lice shampoos. The National Pediculosis (the scientific name for lice) Association agrees. This non-profit group has been working for years to help parents eliminate head lice without exposing their children to harmful chemicals.

Unfortunately this combing process can be a very time consuming and squeamish process for parents who may have "Lice-a-phobia"...and that's where we come in...

Our Lice Patrol Program can help you get your child back to school and get you back to work the next day after the discovery of the nits/lice... Our program consists of two visits to your home within the 7 day incubation period.

1st Visit:

During our 1st visit to your home we will comb out all visible nits and live lice on your child's head. Your child will then be ready to return to school the next day after our 1st visit.

(1st Visit approx. 2.5 hours)

2nd Visit:

We will return after the 7 day incubation period to repeat the process to ensure that any nits or lice that may have hatched during the 7 day incubation period are removed, thereby ending the cycle.

(2nd Visit approx. 1.5 hour)

Should any lice or nits remain after our second visit, we will return free of charge for a third 1.5 hour session to ensure that your child is nit free.
